The Friends of Big Muddy National Fish & Wildlife Refuge is a coalition of individuals and organizations dedicated to supporting habitat restoration, outreach, and education to conserve and enhance the
Big Muddy National Fish and Wildlife Refuge. Our Bylaws
Created in 1994, The refuge consists of several units totaling over 16,700 acres located on the Missouri (Big Muddy) river. Located between Kansas City and St Louis, Missouri, each unit is named for towns that once flourished, pioneers, sunken river boats, or interesting facts, events, or landmarks. The refuge continues to grow as funding is available and more landowners approach the refuge to have their land purchased at fair market value.

Our History:
Starting soon after the Refuge was formed, Troy Gordon began assembling the Friends of Big Muddy. He built trails, led workdays, shared information about the Refuge and the Friends groups. Unfortunately, he passed away in April, 2008. We continue to be inspired by Troy's vision and carry on his dream.
